  37th & Penn Avenue Townhomes

Hanson Design Group, Ltd. was selected by a private developer for this project which was a joint venture with a local development corporation. A previous project, Doughboy Square, established a market for new housing in the Lawrenceville neighborhood of Pittsburgh. This project was a continuation of the same team except that the private developer assumed the lead position. All of the units were sold before the anticipated sell-out date.

The site for this project is located on a primary urban corridor of Pittsburgh. The two buildings of four units each were designed to provide for on-site turnaround so it is not necessary to back onto the busy street. A handsome brick wall and mature Sycamore trees were valuable site assets that were retained.

The homes have been set back from the street in order to preserve the existing trees and wall. It also allows for the turnaround in the front. The garage doors are overshadowed by the overhang and have a window pattern that emulates the windows above. Large windows in most rooms enhance the interior space, providing natural ventilation and excellent views of the surrounding neighborhood.
