Hanson Design Group, Ltd. provides ongoing design consulting services and onsite participation in the construction of projects for the Central European Linkages Project (CELP). CELP is an economic development initiative designed to use environmental stewardship, energy conservation and pollution reduction as economic drivers in stressed European communities. The work involves the sustainable design and development of open space in urban areas, ecologically designed 'bio-based' playgrounds, and building related projects focused on energy conservation. Several projects are active in Ostrava and Hostelkovice in the Czech Republic, and in Marklavice, Poland.
CELP is modeled after the Pittsburgh Green Neighborhood Initiative and relies heavily on community involvement, the facilitation of volunteer building programs and creative financing to achieve improvements in building performance and neighborhood quality of life. CELP has constructed working relationships with a number of stakeholders including the government, residents and the design community in select Eastern European cities since 1996.
It is sponsored by Pittsburgh-based Air and Waste Management, the Heinz Endowments and several other foundations and corporate interests.
