Neighborhood Conditions Site Analysis

Hanson Design Group, Ltd. was selected by the Sanders Task Force to conduct five neighborhood analyses. The Sanders Task Force is working to address the legacy of systemic segregation in County Housing. In doing so, it is looking at both County Housing itself and some of the communities affected by it. Each target area is defined at a roughly two block radius surrounding Allegheny County Housing Authority communities that have been, or are in the process of being renovated or rebuilt. The neighborhoods surround the following ACHA communities: Mapleview Terrace in Braddock, Hawkins Village in Rankin, Burns Heights in Duquesne, McKees Rocks Terrace (to be renamed Meyer's Ridge) and Hays Extension, both in McKees Rocks.
The Survey began with team members touring the target area, evaluating the conditions of both properties and infrastructure. Every lot in the Target Area, as well as the extended areas, was reviewed individually. Additionally, land use, height, street and sidewalk conditions and number of residential units were documented, and information including property data such as ownership, assessment and tax liens was collected.
The information from the field research was entered onto a GIS (Geographic Information System) map, zoning districts were overlaid, and maps from PA One-Call were coordinated with the utility information present on the GIS base map. Once all the data was entered on the map, a variety of analytical maps were created, allowing the team to consider a variety of data, both isolated and overlaid.
All this information was brought together into one cohesive Master Plan document for each community, detailing research, findings, maps, illustrations and recommendations.
