The PennDOT Lincoln Way Widening Project has been in several planning and preliminary design phases for the last several years. Recently, the White Oak Local Development Corporation hired Hanson Design Group, Ltd. to work with PennDOT in addressing the potential streetscape impact on the White Oak Business District. This Website will be used to serve as a point of communication with not only the business and property owners within the Business District but also with all concerned members of the Community. Lincoln Way has approximately. 22,000 vehicles a day travel it. It is a gateway from Westmoreland County into Allegheny County, used by local residents and by the growing population in North Huntingdon Township to areas west. The Penn Dot plan of widening this roadway from State Street to Route 48 is working in conjunction with the Local Development Corporation and the County's business revitalization project that make up a three block area between Feigs bakery and Rite Aide. The county /local development project will help to capture some of that Westmoreland County business with convenience shopping at new establishments located in the new business district. It will also serve as a welcome area to Allegheny County with decorative lamppost- street signs- sidewalk benches and trees. The LDC is working with the WO Planning and Zoning departments to develop shared parking areas that will increase parking spaces as well as green spaces. We have looked at some models in other areas of the country but we are really forging the way for this type of arrangement that will be used for future models located throughout Allegheny and surrounding counties.
